New toy!!

Hey peeps!

This past week my husband gave me my Christmas present early!  It is a Brother 780-D embroidery machine!!  I love it!  I used my mom's Babylock machine for years, so I got pretty familiar with the machine.  Now I can monogram/embroider almost anything!

I have started back making more of my pouches.  I love this pouches because they have so many uses.  I use mine to hold all my chap sticks and lip glosses.  Such a life saver!!  I no longer spend forever searching the depths of my purse for one tube of chap stick!

These are also great for holding USB sticks, personal items, etc.

I will also be working on some baby bibs and other personalized items (probably key chains, pocket tees and scarves).  I am so excited to start working on these items!  If you have any ideas or items that you want to order, just contact me and I will be more than happy to make it for you!

Personalized items are great for birthdays, wedding party gifts, anniversaries, and baby gifts!

Here is my new machine:

I included in the picture two new pouches!

New! New! New!

Hey Everyone!

So...I have fallen behind on posting new items...yeah..  I had two back-to-back shows these last two weeks (great to see everyone who came out!) but now I am getting back on track!  I have been posting new necklaces these last couple of days.  I will begin to post new earrings later this week.

I hope all is going well with you!!  I am so excited about Halloween coming up!  Me and the hubby are going to a corn maze and haunted barn this weekend.  He has been trying to get me to watch really scary movies this month.  I caved and watched a couple, but that's it!  After a couple scary movies, I think I'm set for the whole year.

After Halloween, I will be rolling out my new logo!  My current logo is my Halloween themed banner!  I have already introduced my new earring cards at the Sacred Heart Fall Festival.  But I am waiting till November to completely change over.

Is it weird that I am super excited about this??  I loved my previous logo, but it was very hard to pair anything with it and it was making it difficult to add coordinating marketing products.

Any-who...

I hope you all have a wonderful day and please stop by to see many new additions!

Just a Day at the Market

Hey peeps!!

This past weekend I was able to set up shop at the Wesleyan Market!  This takes place at Wesleyan College, which up until a few years ago was actually an all girl's college.  Me and the hubby had such a great day!  Though the veterans of the market said it was a slow turn out, we had a blast with all the customers.  It was such a great relief to see actual buyers (compared to the Battle of Byron last month  :-/).  Because of the great turnout, we will be returning on the 28th!  Yay!  Which everyone was saying that the end of the month market is much busier!  So if you are local, I highly encourage you to experience the market.  They market had several wonderful vendors.  Many that served great food!  One of which we had for lunch.  It was a great booth that sold Mexican food.  It tasted so fresh and flavorful!

Unfortunately, we were too late to buy dessert (Dustin left to go to some baked good vendors and they sold out before noon!).  But all in all, we had a wonderful day.  I have several new necklaces and earrings that I will try to add this week.

I will also be introducing some seasonal jewelry this year!  I am currently working on some Halloween/Fall earrings.  Some Christmas necklaces are also in the works!

I hope you have a wonderful week!

Hey Peeps!

Happy Wednesday!

I am working on the Newsletter...so have not fear!  It will be out soon-ish.  I can't tell you how excited I am for tomorrow!  Since my hubby has to work late, I will be making the most of tomorrow to take my mind off of it.  :-)  It will be all about Project Runway and jewelry!  I will be making a pit stop by my all time favorite store to pick up some supplies for a top secret project (which I won't even reveal on here!) and then home to work on adding some new listings!

The new listing that I have waiting to be added are and assortment of necklaces and earrings.  I find myself making more and more long necklaces when I am prepping for Fall.  So I decided...Long necklaces are so in for Fall!  I didn't even bother to consult the trend makers on this one.  Yep!  So I will be working on getting those listings up ASAP!

Tonight I have also discover Flavors. This site has allowed me to corral all my social media for Some Kind of Pretty to one easy location for any follower to use...it even has the etsy store!  So, please follow me on http://flavors.me/somekindofpretty   :-)

I want to leave you with this bright happy necklace for the evening.

Long week...Lots of Rain

So, if you live in Georgia, you may have noticed that every evening it has been raining...a lot...  The excessive rain has actually dampened many of my plans.  I don't have a gym membership anymore, so I like to go on a walk as a warm up.  I can't really walk in the rain.  Of course, there are other options for exercise, but I'm lazy and I like my walks.  :-)

But, all this rain has given me the opportunity to stay inside and work on my jewelry and prepping for a busy Fall season of craft shows!  I'm so excited!!  I am even getting some Christmas jewelry made! (Don't hate me for getting on the Christmas train already.)

In preparation for an upcoming show, I am making a new display for my long necklaces.  I decided that I don't show you all enough of my process, that I will do a DIY for a long necklace display.  :-)  If this rain ever lets up, I will begin my project.  But  till then, I will keep everything a surprise.

I just hope that your week has been a good one!!  I know I'm glad that it's Friday!  What do you have planned for the weekend?

P.S....

I love these!

Favorite Pouches

Good Evening!!

I hope you had a great weekend!  I know mine was pretty good.  I am trying to recover from a stressful week at work.  I had to take Friday off to help calm down.  But, now I am feeling better and (I think I am) ready for this upcoming week.

Today I wanted to feature my lipstick pouches.  These pouches are special to me.  My mom started making these a while ago on one of her fancy sewing machines, and I loved them!!  So anytime I see my mom now, I always make sure to make some pouches to sell.  I have yet to actually add them to the store.  I usually have them as a craft show exclusive, but this week I decided to post the pouches I have left.

These pouches are perfect to hold any little odd-n-end in your purse.  I use mine to hold my stash of lip glosses and chap sticks.  This way, I don't lose all of them in the bottom of my purse!!  I also don't end up buying 10 tubes of car-max.  My mom likes to use hers to hold all of her usb drives.  She uses a bunch for her embroidery projects.  You can also use them to hold just about anything else!!!  These would be great for stocking stuffers too!

I currently have 5 listed, but I am working on adding more!

What do you think?

Shows and staying positive...

So...

Last weekend I was at the Battle of Byron.  This was supposed to be a huge show for Byron.  It is originally held in May, but since Georgia has been under a storm cloud for the last three months, it had to be rescheduled.  The show was moved to August.  I was looking forward to this show all Summer.  I was pumped!!  The hubby and I brought everything!  I don't think we forgot anything!  We also beat our record set-up time.  .......Then...there was nobody....

I exaggerate when I say nobody.  But the attendance was so low!  I couldn't believe it!!  So, all Saturday I was crushed.  Thankfully I bounced back!  Now I am back to making jewelry!  I also keep in mind a custom wedding order that I am doing for an old high school friend!  I love doing wedding orders!!

I just have to remember that one show won't break me and I have actually had worse shows.  This show I also featured some new additions.  A couple I have not added to the store yet.

I have redesigned my Threaded Leather Bracelets (Floss Bracelets) and have made them into bangles!!  I will be phasing out my Floss Bracelets and will be now featuring my Threaded Bangles!

These bracelets can be made in any color.  I seriously have TONS of colors.  I have also added little beads to each bangle!  I use metal beads, Czech fire polished glass, shell, and/or semi-precious stone.Of course if you do not want the beads, they can be made with out them.  I love these for their bright colors and they look great stacked together!  Just put in the buyers notes what color you would like for me to use.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!!

I love Thursdays

So Thursdays have become my most favorite day!  It's almost the weekend, it's relaxed around the house (weekend craziness hasn't hit yet), I usually end up working on jewelry.....and.....Project Runway comes on!!!!!!

I have been a loyal fan since season 1.  You might call it an obsession.  But I love this show!  I even loved the short lived spin off, Project Accessory.

Tonight's episode focusing on making clothes out of bow ties...this should be interesting.  If you haven't watched the show yet...you should!!  I know I will be watching it while drinking some Chai tea from my zebra mug.  :-)  Since today is basically about my favorites...here are some of my favorites in the store!!

Crazy Life Update!

Wow!!

I have been gone for a good minute.  But life got crazy.  Still crazy, but sometimes you just need to step back.

My husband and I set up the booth at the I Love Junk Trunk show last weekend.  It wasn't as busy as I had hoped, but we had fun.  He was thrilled because he scored an awesome deal on a great edger...men...

I also sold my car last weekend!  It was very bitter-sweet.  It was my grandparents car that they sold/gave me.  I had a lot of memories tied to that car, but I knew that I needed a new car.  So I said farewell to the S.S. Abe.

So, that is a brief life update!  Tonight I being super girly...working on jewelry stuff, drinking chai tea from my zebra print mug, and watching Project Runway.  :-)  Thursday nights are always awesome!!  I hope all this good energy will help me figure out the new newsletter set up.  I am still trying to figure it out.  I gave up last month, but I am determined to get it right!

Meanwhile, did you notice some of the new necklaces?

Craft Show Prep!

Good Evening Peeps!!

Hope you had an enjoyable weekend!  This week I will be prepping for my first craft show in quite a few months!  This one will be the I Love Junk Trunk Show in Byron.  I'm pretty excited for this one.  This week I will focus on finishing some displays for the booth and pricing all the new items.  I love doing craft shows!  I love getting my booth all dressed up like a mini store and meeting a lot of new people.  Craft shows are a great way to meet my customers face to face and to meet a lot of great vendors.  I am very lucky to have a husband who carves his schedule out around my craft shows, after all..he is the muscle for the set up and tear down.

This craft show I will be featuring a lot of my new items.  Such as:

$17
This necklace is made of etched shell beads!  I find this necklace a fascinating piece just because of the detail in each bead.  This necklace will be perfect for any formal occasion...or even a day at the office!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/157305304/grey-and-orange-tassel-necklace?ref=shop_home_active
$13
I would love to layer with this piece!!  I see this piece going great with almost any weekend or evening outfit.  This would pair great with any shorter necklace.  The orange beads add a pop of color and interest to this necklace.

I will keep you updated on the progress for prep this weekend!  Hope to see you there!

Venting about Bubble Necklaces...

So hopefully you noticed that I haven't been posting a lot...or that I didn't even send out a newsletter!!!  GASP!!!  I know...craziness!  Things around got a little crazy with work and my parents coming into town.  I had a small list of projects I wanted their help with and within hours of them being here, the list doubled!  I am so grateful to have such supportive and helpful parents.  I wished they could have stayed longer, but they had to go back home.  Now the hubby and I are getting back into a routine.  lol

In preparation for a busy Fall craft show schedule, I will be flooding the store with lots of new goodies!!  So keep an eye for new additions!  I will show off some of my new additions tonight.  But I have to tell you one annoyance that I have...bubble necklaces...I love the look of them, but hate how they are sold online...  I scoured suppliers looking for the right supplies to make such a necklace for my sister.  I eventually found the right supplies and was able to make them.  But the reason why I have an annoyance with these necklaces is because you can find them all over Etsy, but 99% of the time, the ones you find are from China and are not even handmade.  These necklaces exploded in popularity.  So now that I am making them, but not with the variety as many of the sellers from China, I am having to compete with faux-handmade shops.  I guess I just get annoyed at seeing the shops on Etsy that sell from jewelry from China because, to me, they seem fake.  I don't feel like the owner of the shop actually sat at a desk, designed the piece, and constructed it.

Well I'm done venting about Chinese Etsy shops...hope I didn't offend anyone!

So it's a Monday

Hey Peeps!

So I definitely have a case of the Mondays...  So I won't be going crazy with the listings today.  Also you might have noticed that the newsletter is not out yet...Still working on it!  I got side-tracked with prepping for the parents.  Now that they are here, we have tons of projects lined up!  We are making a headboard, cornice boards, pillows, and hanging a bunch of stuff on the walls...yeah...we are pretty awesome like that.

I am also making lipstick pouches!  Right now I only sell them at craft shows, but after this next batch I plan on posting them online.  They are small quilted pouches that can be used to hold a variety of items.  I use mine to hold my ever-growing stash of chap sticks and lip-glosses.  But they can be used to hold anything...just wait...they will make an appearance on this blog.

But in the spirit of DIY house projects, here are pics of my new telephone chair!!  Some already know, but many do not...know what you may ask!  For years I have been obsessing over telephone chairs!  I love the vintage look to them and have been wanting one for so long!  Though mine might not be very old, I still love it and can't believe that I finally got one!

The chair was BRIGHT red and needed some repainting.

The fabric in the chair will soon become a pillow.  :-)
Hope you enjoyed my DIY!

Red, White and Weekend Plans!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!!

For some lucky people, this is their "Friday", for the rest of us, tomorrow will be a much needed mid-week break!  I know I will love it!  But my day will be spent cleaning, baking, and doing yard work.  Me and the hubby are doing all this for our very special guests this weekend...my parents!!  Yes, my parents are driving in from the great state of Oklahoma, to come to the current marsh lands of middle GA.  You won't believe the rain we have been getting.  (Which probably explains my lack of motivation for not getting the Newsletter out yet...)  Speaking of newsletter!  So glad you brought it up...The program I use is going through a major update into something completely different than what it used to be, that's part of the reason why it is taking me so long to finish.  But I promise to get it out very soon!  If you are not receiving my newsletter and would like to, just message me your email and I will promptly add you to the list!

I don't know about you, but I will proudly be wearing my red, white and blue tomorrow!  I will hopefully be out watching fireworks somewhere tomorrow, so I might not have time for another post.  So I will show you some pieces that will show off your patriotism is a stylish why.  You don't have to be dressed in the flag head to toe to show your love for our awesome country.

I love this red ring for it's bright pop of color.  Sure to be a statement with any outfit!
https://www.etsy.com/listing/155390001/red-flowers-ring?ref=shop_home_active
$6

Now I know I have done a lot of navy...but I just can't help myself!!  This would be a great subtle yet bold necklace to wear with your patriotic outfit.

These earrings are so cute and perfect for Independence Day!  They are white and give a nod to the Navy.

Well I hope you enjoyed my selection and have a wonderful weekend!!

Busy times....

Hey peeps!! Happy Friday!

There is always a way to find me...

Good Evening peeps!

So after doing some work with the store, I realized that there are quite a few ways to get your hands on a Some Kind of Pretty original.  So I would like the highlight just a few ways.  Of course, there is the traditional way and that is through my Etsy store!  But if you do not want to use Etsy (because like Pinterest, you can easily spend all day on there!) I have a store through Facebook!!!  Yes indeed I do.  This store actually offers a coupon code for purchasing through Facebook.  This store front can be found on my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Some-Kind-of-Pretty/  There is a tab that says My Etsy Shop.  Just click there and you are in business!!!

Some of you may know about might be lucky enough to run into my items in a store called The Fashion Flip in Yukon, OK.  My sister and I decided to get a booth at this cute little boutique a few months ago and have loved it ever since!!  I love that people can go in there everyday and see my items!  So if you are in the area, you should swing by, check it out, and let me know what you think!!

Another facet that I love to use to sell jewelry is craft shows.  I have become a craft show junkie!!!  Thank God that my husband is actually very enthusiastic to go with me.  He is quite the salesperson and sometimes can sell more than me!!  This Fall I will be all over middle GA attending about 1-2 craft shows a month.  I will be using all of July to prep for this marathon of shows.  If you are local, I hope to see you out there!

Finally, just message me!  If you are thinking of something in particular that you would like, just let me know. I love doing custom orders, especially for weddings!!

Now that you know all the ways to get a piece of something pretty...or Some Kind of Pretty...(hehehe...I couldn't help myself).  I would like to show just a couple of my new rings!!  The resin rings will be starting at $5

Blue, Blogs, and Curtains?

Yep!  That pretty much sums up my weekend!  Blue, Blogs and Curtains!  Odd combo I know.  Sorry I have posted in a couple of days, it has just been crazy at the SKoP headquarters.  I wish I could say it all has been for the store, but alas, its not.  The hubby and I have been getting our house together and another family members house.  I spent all Sunday (I use 'all' loosely because I did take frequent breaks and not even start till noon) sewing a valance for their new house.  I don't pride myself on a being a great seamstress, but I can sew a straight-ish line.  Anyway, I spent the day with just me and my sewing machine..and iron..and ironing board..and rotary cutter..and rotary mat....well you get the point.  I promise to post pics soon!!  It actually came out really cute!

So that's one part of my weekend!  Another is that I decided to reach out to a few blogs for a feature/giveaway!  Right now I am being featured in a blog by a talented young woman.  Check out her blog and find out about the giveaway at: http://definitelyscreaming.blogspot.com/2013/06/some-kind-of-pretty-giveaway.html

I have a few more partnerships in the works, so I will let you know!

Tonight I was supposed to take pictures of all my new work this week, but the couch looked so comfy and I couldn't resist!  So I will take pictures tomorrow!  But I did post a few new listings over the weekend...hence the blue part!  I noticed myself being attract to and working with a lot of blue lately.  Which  can be seen if you look at some of the new listings.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/154769401/blue-jasper-and-metal-flower-necklace?ref=shop_home_active
$13
Blue Jasper with a blue enamel rose
I love this!  The blue jasper has such beautiful hues!  There are also matching earrings!!

$7
I love these blue bird earrings!  Blue enameled birds with white Czech fire polished glass.

$15
LOVE navy right now.  Just last week I bought a navy dress, shirt and shoes!!  It  might become a obsession!  Which might be why I love this necklace so much.  Its made of navy ceramic beads.  The necklace beautiful and bold in navy!

So I guess I should work on expanding my color palette this week...I hope you all have a great evening!!  I promise to work on getting these post up earlier in the day!

One Month Already!!!

My hubby and I have survived one month of marriage!!  We both are still living and, even better, still happy. So after this small achievement, it got me thinking about wedding gifts!!  You think after writing all the thank you cards for two showers and a wedding that I would be through with gifts...but I'm not.  I love giving gifts! I think I spent more time planning the gifts for the people involved with my wedding than I should have.  But I  look forward to gift giving!  Weddings are all about life and love.  So I would like to show some of what I think would be a great way to show that off.

$8
I love these because what embodies love more than a heart!!  These are so cute and perfect for that pop of color with a more neutral bridesmaid dress.  Or you can do like I did and I used this same color that also happened to match the bridesmaid's dresses!  They were perfect in pink!!  Of course, I do not have their jewelry up for sale, but these are very similar.

$18
To some this maybe an odd wedding choice.  But say you have that person who helped you with set and clean up, or with another major part of your wedding day, this piece is very unique and stand out.  This necklace will add confidence to her outfit.  Just because she might have done a lot of the behind the scenes work, doesn't mean she should be a wallflower!

Hostess with the Mostest!

Hey Peeps!!

This week the hubby and I have hosted several get-togethers!  We can be quiet the social butterflies...when we want to be.  This got me thinking about what would be great looks for that socialite hostess.  This week, unfortunately, I was a bit thrown together.  However, I still managed to accessorize!

So I would like to point out some cute looks for the Summer Hostess.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/109663518/copper-birds-nest-necklace?ref=shop_home_active
$12
This necklace is great for the casual, outdoors event.  This necklace can be made in silver, copper, and gold.  Also, the color of eggs can be changed up too!  This piece can be a great conversation starter.  Each egg can represent a kid, or even a pet!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/154078960/coral-bamboo-necklace?ref=shop_home_active
$13
So your event is a little more artistic?  Then try this bold bamboo necklace.  This necklace definitely makes a statement and is one of a kind.  It is also a very powerful and confident red!  I would love to see this worn when hosting a gallery opening or just a cool party at a loft.
On the flip side, this can also go very beachy.  Because the bamboo can mimic driftwood.  Have this necklace accent a simple swim suit and you are set for any beach cook out.

$15
Not hosting anything big or crazy?  Just a quiet night at your house and a yummy dinner?  Then don't go over board, but don't be boring.  I love this necklace paired with a simple blouse or a cute cardi-cami combo.  I love this for the simple colors but interesting shapes.  This necklace is made from river shell.  The beads are so smooth and have a great vibrant color.  This necklace also has matching earrings!!

I hope you enjoyed my hostess selections!!  Are you hosting an upcoming event, if so, let me know how it goes!

Later!

Green with Envy

The other day, my husband and I were at Lowe's.  Its like the newlywed Mecca.  While pondering over a paint color for some picture frames that I picked up at a yard sale, I saw a display for Emerald, Pantone's color of the year.  This reminded me that Emerald is a very hot color this year!!  Jewelry is a great way to show off in green without spending a lot of green!  So I decided to show some of my green pieces.

These little bows are perfect touch of green. $6

These jasper and tiger's eye are an earthy take on a very luxe color. $5

I hope you enjoy this rich color.  It can be worn in several ways.  I know I am loving this color of the year!
P.S.--We went with Navy for the picture frames.

Where the Magic Happens

Good Evening peeps!

So today I thought I would show you where all the magic happens!  Yes...my desk!  My workspace has changed a lot over the years.  I think I know have it the way I like.  My desk is actually a kitchen table from my husband's grandparents.  They used it when they first got married.  So now I  use, but make sure to not damage it.  The rest of the items on my desk are a hodge-podge of old glass pieces and jewelry supplies.  I find myself more inspired with the more color I surround myself.  I am not saying that I am going to turn my quaint little corner into a rainbow, but I do like to add color to stimulate the creative process.  My work space is kinda like a mini vacation.  I know once I sit down at my desk, that I can spread everything and let the ideas flow.  They usually come pretty quick.  So I find myself about an hour later with at least a couple sets of jewelry made and about two laid out to finish making.  I have lots of necklaces on the docket to make, but unfortunately things like cooking, laundry, and life are preventing me from finishing all of them!  I guess I will just finish them slowly.  lol.

The pink book is my Inspiration Book.  I keep all my ideas, pictures from magazines, tutorials and blog ideas!

I did post a new earring/necklace set today...

Hope you had a good day!!

Good Deals and Great Deals

Good Evening peeps!!

This past weekend I spent most of it cleaning house and going through some old clothes.  I kinda had to make room for my husband's clothes...he wanted room in the closet, can you believe that!  This reminded me that I need to 'clean house' in my store.  Thus, brings me to today!!  After looking at my store, I realized that I had quite a few good pieces in my clearance section.  So I decided that I would highlight the Clearance section of my store.

While some stores use the clearance rack as a cast away island for all the misfit toys, I want to embrace and show it off.  Yes, I have a couple of pieces that haven't found a good home yet, but I am sure they will!  These pieces are made with the same quality materials and love as the rest of my listings, so why not be proud!! Think of these listings as awesome good deals, and not as some cast aways on some clearance rack in a dark corner.

I absolutely love this piece!!  It is a long necklace with a painted shell pendant.  I am in love with pink, green and chevron!!  It is such a great piece for the summer!!  This beauty is a steal priced at $8.

This bold necklace is made of river shell rings.  It is about 18" long.  I love this because it has the presence of a bold statement necklace, but it can also be subdued because of the creamy-white color.  This is also priced to sell at $7.

Looking for a more natural look?  These are green river shell and wooden squares.  These are great for a node to nature while still being modern.  They hang almost 2" in length and can be yours for $4.

I hope you check out the clearance section!!  Just because its marked down in price, does not mean its marked down in quality.  :-)

P.O.C.

Pop of Color!!  Everyone needs a little pop of color in their wardrobe!  I love using bits of color to brighten up an look.  Even if you have had the outfit for a while, it will look fresh and new with the right pop of color.

Pops of color don't necessarily have to bright or neon.  They can be softer colors.  But I am a big fan of color, so I tend to lean towards bright colors.  I would like to feature some of my bright pieces that will definitely make a statement and freshen up any wardrobe!

These are great for adding a little twist to your wardrobe.  I know that because I work in an office and I use my jewelry to add personality to my professional wardrobe.  Having a touch of red and arrows will make any corporate wardrobe instantly unique!

So these will obviously speak for themselves.  They are so fun and spunky!!  There is also a matching necklace available.

Just not to tire you out on red, I have this adorable blue plaid necklace.  This will add a cute/country/preppy look to any outfit from a plain tee to an adorable blouse.

I hope you embrace a little P.O.C. in your wardrobe!
